Our new series of monthly organ recitals was launched
today with a recital given by Director of Music, Lee
Dunleavy. Over the coming six months he and Travis Organ
Fellow, Hilary Punnett, will perform the complete organ
works of Brahms, Mendelssohn and Schumann. The recitals
are given on the first Thursday of each month at 1:10pm
(except September 2013 and January 2014 when they are
given on the second Thursday) and admission is
free with a retiring collection. A video projection
system is in use which enables you to see as well as
hear the performer in action. The major works of
Mendelssohn – his six Organ Sonatas – and
Schumann – his six Fugues on BACH and six
Canonic Études will be performed in sequence, split
over the six recitals, and the smaller works will fit
around these.
An additional recital of a seasonal nature will be given
in the week running up to Christmas, Thursday 19
December at 1:10pm, when Mr Dunleavy and Miss Punnett
will be joined by the Parish Priest of All Saints, Fr
David McConkey, an organ graduate of Yale University, to
perform German Romantic Christmas organ music for one,
two and even three organs! This recital will also be
free with a retiring collection.
More information on the series, which forms part of a
longer festival of German music entitled Rage and
Romance,
